The entry requirements for master's level courses and bachelor's level courses differ. There are both general requirements for university studies and specific requirements for each course. 

All Swedish and international students must fulfill the general admission requirements and all specific admission requirements in order to be considered for admission to a course at Linköping University.

Entry requirements for master's level courses

General entry requirements

• a bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognised university.
• proof of skills in English. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognized test. For more information see www.universityadmissions.se.

Specific entry requirements

Applicants must also meet the specific entry requirements stated for each course. Please check the course descriptions carefully for detailed information.

General entry requirements

• completion of an upper secondary education conferring eligibility to university studies in the country where the education was taken, and corresponding to the upper secondary level in Sweden.
• skills in English, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of English required in Swedish upper secondary education (English B/ English 6).
• skills in Swedish, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of Swedish required to achieve a pass grade in Swedish upper secondary education. Students applying for courses/programmes taught in English are exempted from the requirement of skills in Swedish.

Language requirements for bachelor's and master's level studies in English

To be eligible for bachelor's studies conducted in English, students must have documented skills in English, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B/ English 6). For students who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested by means of an international language test.

Language requirements for bachelor's studies in Swedish

To be eligible for bachelor's studies conducted in Swedish, students must have documented knowledge of Swedish, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of Swedish required in Swedish upper secondary education (Swedish B/Swedish 3). For students who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in Swedish are normally documented by the nationwide Swedish test TISUS, Test in Swedish for University Studies.

Students with Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic or Faeroese as their mother tongue do not need to verify their knowledge of Swedish if their knowledge of their mother tongue is documented by their final upper secondary school certificate.

Finnish students who have studied Swedish in upper secondary education are considered to have the required knowledge of Swedish.
