Grantee Celebration Event

The Grantee Celebration Event is an annual event to recognise and celebrate the researchers at Linköping University who have received prestigious research grants during the year.

The event also aims to share experiences and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

The event also serves as a forum for researchers from different disciplines to exchange experiences and network. The event is hosted by Vice-chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson and was first held in autumn 2022. The 2025 event was held on 13 November at Campus Valla.

We want to show our appreciation of the researchers’ achievements, and highlight what it is that makes them so successful. This can be a huge inspiration to others.

Grantee Celebration Event 2025

The 2025 event took place on 13 November at Campus Valla in Linköping.

Vice-Chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson began the evening by looking back on LiU’s 50-year journey and the significance of research for the university’s development.

After the Vice-Chancellor’s opening remarks, Feng Gao, Professor at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), took to the stage. With an impressive track record (including two ERC grants, SSF Future Research Leaders, the Tage Erlander Prize, as well as Wallenberg Academy Fellow and Wallenberg Scholar), he shared his best advice on how to succeed with applications. He also emphasised the importance of seeking support, both from colleagues and from the Grants and Program Offices at Linköping University.

Linda Bojmar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV), shared how funding from, among others, the European Research Council has made her research projects possible.

Colm Nestor, Senior Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV), gave an insight into his research projects and how funding from, among others, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond has made them possible.

Hanna Pelikan, Assistant Professor at the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS), spoke about her research on human–robot interaction and the path that led her there.

The evening also featured musical entertainment by Qvintetteriet, the wind quintet of the Linköping Academic Orchestra.

The path to research funding – our researchers tell their stories

Sara Liin

Sara Liin is currently a Senior Associate Professor in neurobiology at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences at Linköping University. Her research focuses, among other things, on cardiac arrhythmias. In 2019, she was awarded SEK 15 million in funding from the European Research Council (ERC).

Simone Fabiano

Simone Fabiano is currently Professor and Research Leader at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE). In 2021, he was appointed a Wallenberg Academy Fellow and was awarded SEK 10 million to support his research in organic nanoelectronics.

Eva Hemmungs Wirtén

Eva Hemmungs Wirtén is currently Professor Emerita at Linköping University. In the spring of 2017, she was awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for the project “Patents as Scientific Information, 1895–2020 (PASSIM)”, becoming the first Swedish woman in the humanities and social sciences to receive this distinction. In total, she was awarded EUR 2.3 million for her research.

LiU congratulates successful researchers, and looks to inspire others

The Grantee Celebration Event is an initiative in which Linköping University congratulates LiU researchers who have recently been awarded prestigious research grants. It is intended to become an annual event – one that inspires young researchers.

Four LiU researchers appointed as new Wallenberg Academy Fellows

Four researchers at Linköping University are to receive research grants from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation amounting to SEK 36 million over 5 years. In addition, a previous holder has received an extension to his fellowship.
