The Division of Fluid and Mechatronic Systems at Linköping University has a long tradition of research projects in hydraulic pumps and motors. The main focus of many projects has been the noise created in pumps and motors, and how to reduce it.

The current project is developing a new hydraulic piston machine for various applications. The main benefit is the simplicity of production along with an expected high energy efficiency and a low noise level. The project is financed by the Strategic Vehicle Research and Innovation programme at the Swedish Energy Agency, Volvo Car Group and Volvo Construction Equipment.

In the division's lab, we are able to measure flow pulsations, which is the best method to measure the noise created in hydraulic pumps and motors. Also, the efficiency of the pump or motor can be measured.
