Collegial interactions and deliberations, both within individual organizations and between professions, are crucial for determining what actually takes place in patient care. What happens in the care encounter cannot be fully understood by only looking at formal structures; it is also in the more informal activities that professionals manage decisions, which can be routine, critical, ambiguous, complex, or unpredictable.
Through ethnographic studies where I follow healthcare staff in their daily work, I explore different forms of collegial interaction, how time and place affect these interactions, and how they approach complex decision-making situations that require prioritizing limited resources.
