My research focus is migration and globalisation. I currently work in a project on irregular migrants in Sweden, focusing on institutional temporalities, the everyday practice of solidarity and how people navigate uncertain futures. In addition, I specialize in sport migration, focusing on football migration between Ghana and Sweden. My PhD thesis explores the migration and career trajectories of Ghanaian footballers that come to Sweden. Analytical themes that I focus on include dreams and aspirations, temporalities, transnational family structures, postcolonial perspectives, notions of race and racialization, the political economy of the global football industry, and gendered aspects of football migration. I have also conducted research on conflict, security and development, with particular focus on the West African Context.
At the moment, I am in the process of developing two new projects; one that continues my work on football migration, exploring football migration between West Africa and Sweden, paying particular attention to transnational networks and women’s football. The other project looks at a new topic: the temporalities of Swedish elderly care.
