I research municipal welfare in Sweden and how different levels of the local welfare system construct and manage social vulnerability and social problems in later life, as well as how these processes shape the conditions for preventive social work.

At the Boundaries of Welfare

How Social Problems Are Constructed and Managed in Later Life.

I am an industrial doctoral student. My dissertation project is conducted within ASC (Ageing and Social Change), Linköping University, in collaboration with the Elderly Care Administration in the City of Gothenburg.

I have extensive experience in social work and strategic development, with expertise in welfare issues and societal development in the context of an ageing population. In recent years, I have worked to promote diversity and the human rights of older people in policy development, with a particular focus on countering ageism, social exclusion and discrimination.

Within social gerontology, the project contributes to broadening the understanding of ageing and social change, particularly in relation to structural and institutional transformations. By linking governance, organisation and professional practice, the dissertation examines how social vulnerability and social problems in later life are constructed and managed within the local welfare system, and how these processes shape the conditions for effective preventive social work.
