My research

Non-healing wounds remain a largely overlooked challenge in healthcare today, posing a major burden for both patients and healthcare systems. When the skin is damaged and fails to heal within a normal time frame, the body’s natural barrier is compromised, increasing the risk of infection and long-term complications.

These types of wounds are more common than many realize. In Europe, a large proportion of hospital beds are occupied by patients with non-healing wounds. In Sweden, tens of thousands of people suffer from chronic leg ulcers alone. The associated healthcare costs are thereby substantial, reflecting a growing and often overlooked medical need. New treatment options are therefore urgently needed.

My doctoral research focuses on developing new strategies to prevent infection and promote healing in these wounds. By combining advanced biomaterials with antimicrobial approaches, the goal is to create more effective and clinically relevant treatments for patients in need.
