Our research environment is located at the division of Media and Information Technology on Campus Norrköping. Our work draws on 20 years of research, focusing on visualization and interaction in the context of AI, autonomous systems and software.

The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden’s largest individual research programme, has been extended by three years and will receive a further research grant of nearly SEK 1.3 billion.

Gunnar Bark, long-time manager for Ericsson’s research activities in Linköping, is to take over as director of WARA, the Wallenberg Research Arenas, an important part of the WASP research initiative. The role brings challenges.

The topic of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Jubilee Symposium held at LiU was “Materials and Technology for a Digital Future”. The symposium focussed on technology and materials that mimic humans, but the range of topics was broad.

“We have survived the AI winter: now we need suitable infrastructure to break the ice.” The words are those of Anders Ynnerman, professor at LiU who once again is standing on the barricades to unite the Swedish research community.

Last year, WASP took the decision to start a total of nine NEST projects. One of the projects will be based at LiU and will involve several LiU researchers taking on the biggest challenges in AI research.
