Work assignments
- Design of behavioural experiments in rats to investigate neural mechanisms underlying substance use disorder (SUD)
- Using chemo- and optogenetics to study neural circuitry in animal models of SUD
- Development of novel, translationally relevant tasks to study SUD
- Acquisition and analysis of data from behavioural experiments
- Processing of tissues and samples using molecular biology techniques and confocal microscopy
- Analysis of data related to several -omics techniques
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
You have the following experiences and knowledge:
- PhD in neuroscience or other relevant area
- Elaborate expertise in rodent models of SUD
- Expertise in molecular techniques including stereotactic surgeries, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and fluorescence-activated cell sorting
- Experience in research focusing on the molecular and cellular mechanisms in the central amygdala related to compulsive alcohol drinking
It's meritorious if you also have:
- Documented interest in science communication
- Interdisciplinary perspective and organisational skills
As you will be in an international environment good knowledge in both spoken and written English is a requirement. Furthermore, you are responsible, committed, and able to work independently while you have good interpersonal skills. Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

This employment is a temporary contract of three years. The employment is full-time. Starting by agreement.
