Postdoctoral Researchers in Computer Vision
Back to available jobsThe Division of Computer Vision is looking for 1-3 postdoctoral researchers focusing on one of our specialized research areas.
Work assignments
Our 3D Geometry unit conducts research on estimation problems in multi-view geometry, such as structure-from-motion problems, positioning problems, and self-calibration. The 3D motion unit focuses on reconstructing the movements of humans and animals in 3D. The remote sensing unit works on predicting forest fires using data from remote sensing. Our visual learning theory unit develops machine learning methods conditioned by statistical, geometric, or physical constraints. The visual perception unit studies the learning of perception for seeing robots, for example, under motion blur. An important part of our work is estimating uncertainty in perception.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to independently drive your own research within the unit. As a researcher, you will also supervise PhD students, contribute to international research projects, and teach. The results of your research will fall under the teacher exemption, which means that you will own the rights yourself.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the tasks, but up to a maximum of one-fifth of the working time.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you. The degree must be at an advanced level in computer science and engineering, or applied physics and electrical engineering, of which at least 60 higher education credits must be at an advanced level in computer vision or equivalent.
You should have good mathematical ability and experience in machine learning, programming, and analyzing visual data. You should also have the ability to work independently and to formulate and address technical and scientific questions. Furthermore, you should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
We are looking for someone who is goal- and result-oriented, has the ability to adapt when goals change, and has excellent problem-solving analytical skills to handle complex issues. We also value independence and the ability to structure and drive your own processes, as well as good collaboration skills to relate to and work effectively with others.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
When applying, you should describe your specific merits in one of the following areas of computer vision and include a research plan:
- 3D geometry
- 3D motion
- remote sensing
- visual learning theory
- visual perception
The workplace
The Division of Computer Vision (CVL) at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) has a vibrant research environment with five faculty members, five researchers, sixteen PhD students, and several adjunct researchers. CVL conducts research and education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in machine learning within computer vision.
The division has been recognized as one of Sweden's top research environments in Vinnova’s latest report. We have ongoing research activities within WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program), ELLIIT (Excellence center) and LiU's profile area VDF (Visual digital futures).
