Postdoc on Virtual Knowledge Graph Integration
Back to available jobsWe are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the fundamentals of knowledge graphs and virtual data integration.
Work assignments
You will actively participate and lead work tasks in two complementary research projects on foundations and techniques for querying federations of knowledge graphs, including knowledge graph views of heterogeneous types of data sources.
Depending on your expertise and preferences, your work may focus on the theoretical foundations of queries and mappings in this context (e.g., formal results on fundamental properties of relevant languages) or on developing, implementing, and evaluating efficient and scalable techniques for systems that process and answer such queries (e.g., query optimization algorithms, adaptive query processing approaches). Conducting this research work includes also to prepare scientific publications about the results.
As postdoc, you will primarily carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours. Additionally, there will opportunities to supervise students.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest at the time the employment decision is made.
Specific entry requirements (all of them must be satisfied):
* A strong research background in an area related to the work (e.g., Databases, Information Systems, Semantic Web, Linked Data, Knowledge Representation), documented through scientific publications.
* Strong programming skills OR the capability to develop formal abstractions and prove formal results (or both).
* Proficiency in English, both orally and in writing.
The following qualifications are highly advantageous:
* Scientific publications in top venues, presenting similar types of work as you will be doing in this position (e.g., query optimization techniques; studies of query, mapping, or schema languages).
* Experience with Semantic Web technologies (RDF, SPARQL, SHACL, RML, etc).
* Experience with programming in Java.
The workplace
The position is hosted at the Knowledge-Driven Data Management Lab (KDMLAB) of the Department of Computer and Information Science at Linköping University. The department is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe, with research covering a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. KDMLAB is a recently-formed group which currently consists of two faculty with long-time experience at another division at the department, together with three PhD students.
The successful candidate will work with Senior Associate Professor Olaf Hartig who is a leading researcher in the field of Semantic Web and Knowledge Graph technologies, with almost 20 years of experience with scientific research on problems related to data management and querying within decentralized environments. You will benefit from a wide international network of collaborators, and the results of your research will contribute to the further development of HeFQUIN, a state-of-the-art open-source query federation engine. For performing experiments, you will have access to relevant computing infrastructure at the department as well as at the National Supercomputer Centre which operates a data center on the university campus.
