If you have been assessed as a fee-paying student but you do not agree with this assessment please follow the steps below to change your tuition fee status.

The tuition fee status of a new student is determined during the application process, based on the documents submitted.

If you have been assessed as a “fee-paying” student but believe you are eligible for a change of status to “non-fee-paying,” please follow the steps below:

  1. Send an email to admissions@liu.sestating the reason(s) for your requested change in tuition fee status.
  2. Always attach the relevant pages of your passport showing your identity and the passport’s validity period, or a valid identity card. Please scan the original document(s) and attach them to your email.
  3. Attach the documents that demonstrate the grounds on which you qualify for non-fee-payer status. Please scan the original document(s) and attach to your email.

Possible evidence includes:

  • A valid passport.
  • A valid identity card that clearly states your citizenship and the card’s expiration date. Driver’s licenses are not accepted.
  • An official document. Citizens of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland who do not have a valid passport or identity card containing both citizenship and expiration date may instead submit an official document certifying their citizenship. This document must be certified and stamped, and officially translated into English or Swedish if it was issued in another language.
  • A decision from the Swedish Migration Agency (all pages) regarding a residence permit granted for reasons other than studies.
  • The application receipt (mottagningskvitto) for your extension of the most recent residence permit granted for reasons other than studies. The receipt must clearly indicate that the application belongs to you (your name must appear on the official document). The receipt date must be before the expiration date of your latest residence permit. A copy of your most recent residence permit (all pages) must also be submitted.

The university will decide whether your tuition fee status will be changed. If you are unable to provide sufficient evidence, your fee-paying status will remain unchanged.

If you apply for a change of status during summer, your application will be reviewed the second week of August. If you were admitted in the Second admissions round, the deadline for paying the tuition fee is 10 days after the second admissions results have been published, which happens at the end of July. In that case, refrain from paying until your application for a change of status has been reviewed.

If you would also like to apply for a refund of paid tuition fees, please submit a refund application: Refunds

The non-refundable processing fee of SEK 5,000, which applies to refund cases, does not apply if you have been approved for a change in your tuition fee status.
