Computational Mathematics

Differential Geometry and Meshing for Scientific Computing
This course has dual focus. On the more theoretical side, students will examine differential geometry and its use in the design of approximations for curved domains in the context of partial differential equations. Therein, student will learn how to recover continuous properties of the mapping on the discrete level. On the more algorithmic side, students will explore how one divides a complex domain into a set of simpler "elements" that compose a mesh. Beyond the initial mesh creation, students will explore how to measure and improve mesh "quality".

For more information visit Differential Geometry and Meshing for Scientific Computing, 6.0 hp or contact the examiner Andrew Winters (andrew.winters@liu.se).

The course will start in HT2, i.e., the second half of the fall 2025.

Spring semester 2025

Mathematics

Online Course: Orbifolds

From 6 February to 10 April, 2025, the Spanish Topology Network will organise an online course for anyone interested in orbifolds. The lecturers will present a selection of the most relevant results concerning orbifolds and how these objects appear in various mathematical areas. Contact Milagros Izquierdo (milagros.izquierdo@liu.se) for more information.

Mathematical Statistics

MAI0137 Applied Statistical Methods
The course in applied statistical methods will be offered in spring 2025.
