Within Mathematics Education, learning, teaching and knowledge formation in and about mathematics are studied. The scientific field of mathematics education includes investigating causal relationships between the mathematics-specific content and how this is communicated in different environments and contexts, as well as how individuals develop, use and relate to mathematics.
The postgraduate education in Mathematics Education is conducted at the Department of Mathematics (MAI). Postgraduate education in pedagogy with subject didactic focus is conducted at the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning (IBL).
Doctoral studies in Mathematics Education
As a scientific field, mathematics education aims to understand and contribute to the further development of mathematics teaching and mathematics learning at all levels of education, as well as to investigate the role of mathematics in people's opportunities to understand and act in an increasingly complex world.
