Engineers of Sweden manages the Foundation for Swedish Engineers’ Environmental Fund (Miljöfonden). The foundation was established in 1993 with the aim of supporting projects, student theses, and research that contribute to improving the physical environment in Sweden and its surrounding areas. The funds in the foundation come from allocations in Swedbank Robur Humanfond.

In the coming year, Engineers of Sweden and Miljöfonden will expand their collaboration from KTH and LTU to also include the Institute of Technology at Linköping University, Chalmers, and LTH. A total of 2,500,000 SEK has been reserved for 50 theses, which means 10 theses at 50,000 SEK each per institution in 2024, followed by continued collaborations over three years.

The theses should be within the environmental field with the broad aim of increasing interest in and the possibility of solving environmental problems in Sweden. The goal is for the results of these theses to lead to new companies and new jobs and/or implemented solutions in the physical environment in Sweden. The hope is that this will give students, the Institute of Technology, and Engineers of Sweden the opportunity to contribute to the new generation of engineers making a difference for the environment and the job market in Sweden in the future.

The faculty management has appointed a selection committee that will make the selection for Engineers of Sweden. Applications are open from October 1-31, and applicants must be conducting a thesis within a civil engineering program, university engineering program, or technical/natural science master’s program during the current academic year.

The scholarship is tax-free, and if two students do the thesis together, they will share the money.

Selection criteria:

  • The thesis must be assessed to have high scientific quality.
  • The results of the thesis are expected to solve an environmental problem and create a physical application in Sweden.
  • Members of Engineers of Sweden have priority for scholarships.
