Design, Master's programme - Information for admitted students

Welcome to Linköping University and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Here you will find information specific to you as an admitted master’s student.

Congratulations on having been admitted to the Design Master’s Programme. We are delighted that you will be joining us at Linköping University (LiU)!

This exciting programme will develop your understanding of and skills within design, but also your skills and confidence in presenting such work. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions about the programme. Please scroll down for contact info.

If you are following the Visual Media Design track, your home studio will be in Norrköping. During your first year of study however, several parallel courses will be given in Linköping.

If you are following the Sustainable Design or the Service Design track your home studio will be in Linköping.

Please note that there is a free bus service connecting our campuses in Norrköping and Linköping, with a travel time of approximately 40 mins.

Depending on the chosen track, students will be looking for accommodation either in Linköping or Norrköping. Students looking for housing in Norrköping will need a letter of support from the University.

Welcome Week August 2023

New master’s students to the Faculty of Science and Engineering will be formally welcomed at Campus Valla in Linköping. You will receive important information regarding your studies and meet your Master's Programme Contact Person. You will also meet senior students who will be your mentors during the start of the semester. They will assist you with practical issues and guide you through the various academic administration systems you need to be familiar with.

Tuesday 22 August

  • 9:15 - 12:00: General program information
    Location: Kopparhammaren 2, Campus Norrköping
  • 13:15 - 16:00: Joint exercise & Visual Media track
    Location: Kopparhammaren 2

Wednesday 23 August – Mandatory roll call 

  • 12:15 - 16:00: Mandatory roll call, mentor meet-up, information sessions and introduction activities.
    Location: C1, C Building, Campus Valla

    You must attend in person on campus to confirm your place on the programme. If failing to attend, you will lose your place.

Thursday 24 August

  • 9:15 - 12:00: Continued exercise & Sustainable Futures track 
    Location: A Building, Campus Valla
  • 13:00 - 14:15: Welcome to LiU – an on-site introduction event
    Location: Lecture rooms C1, C2, C4 in C Building, Campus Valla
  • 14:15 - 16:00: Welcome Fair
    Location: Colosseum, C Building, Campus Valla

Friday 25 August

A webinar about the academic side of studying a master’s programme in Engineering/IT/Science programmes at Linköping University. In this session for newly admitted students a current student share his experiences of being a student at LiU while a programme coordinator gives advice on what to expect. Recorded in April 2022.

Study Counsellor Marie Carlsson and student Abhishek Raina offer helpful tips on how to plan your studies. You will learn about group work, network-building and what kind of support LiU can offer. They also describe a typical week as a student.

This webinar has tons of useful information for admitted students. Senior Lecturer David Grundlegård and students Sandra and Adam cover everything from the grading system, scholarships, workload and accommodation to Swedish weather and food.
