Karolina Muhrman

I am a senior lecturer in education at Linköping University and teach mainly in the Vocational Teacher program and the Folk High School Teacher Program. I am also organisation leader for the innovation environment Agtech Sweden.

I am a senior lecturer in education at Linköping University and teach mainly in the Vocational Teacher Program and the Folk High School Teacher Program. I also teach in the Subject Teacher Program 7-9 and upper secondary school and supervise degree projects in mathematics didactics f-3, 4-6, in special education and in the international master's program Adult learning and global change.

My research areas

Mathematics in vocational education

My main research interest is in mathematics education in vocational programs.

In my dissertation, I studied the relationship between mathematics teaching in vocational programs and mathematics use in working life, focusing on didactic issues related to the organization of mathematics teaching, content and how teaching can be related to the students' future profession. In my further research, I have deepened the results of the thesis by studying how a subject-integrated approach where mathematics teachers and vocational teachers collaborate, affects students' learning in mathematics and vocational subjects. The current research project is done together with Peter Frejd (Department of Mathematics, LiU).

School development

I am also interested in research related to school development. During 2017-18 I have an assignment as an evaluator of 30 school development projects in eastern central Sweden within the project #jagmed funded by the European Social Fund.

The marketization of Swedish adult education - the procurement era

The research project will study marketization, focusing on the procurement system initiated during the Kunskapslyftet initiative (1997-2002) and which has since been developed in Swedish municipal adult education.

We will identify the consequences of a procurement system for how adult education is organized, but also for the work of teachers and the study paths of adult students. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council and will be carried out 2018-2021. Collaborators in the project are Per Andersson, Andreas Fejes, Diana Holmqvist and Karolina Muhrman.
