My academic background is in behavioral science with a focus on psychology, and I hold specialized expertise in how person-centered and intercultural communication can promote equal care. I received my PhD in October 2024 from Karolinska Institutet, with a doctoral project in the field of transcultural psychiatry. In this project, I evaluated a person-centered interview designed to better understand patients' symptoms in psychiatric diagnosing in transcultural healthcare encounters. The interview, called the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI), is intended for use with all patients but can be particularly valuable in encounters where the patient and clinician do not share the same social and cultural background. The interview was evaluated through an RCT, questionnaires, focus group interviews, and qualitative analysis of medical records. The results showed that the interview facilitated identification of depression among migrants and was appreciated by both patients and clinicians, contributing new and important information.
My experiences from working as a manager in various healthcare and nursing care settings for over 15 years has given me valuable insights of the conditions and challenges of clinical practice, aspects that are crucial in implementation work. I have a strong interest in how our experiences and the cultural filters through which we see the world affect how things that happen, encounters, and new experiences are interpreted. I am particularly interested in multidimensional perspectives in research, including a transdisciplinary approach.
