The workshop focused on exploring the national potential of biogas and biomethane production in the partner countries—Sweden, Poland, and Ukraine. The main goal was to identify opportunities for cross-country collaboration and to pave the way for the expansion of biogas solutions across the Baltic Sea Region. Presentations by the speakers provided valuable insights into both the current and future potential of biogas and biomethane production in each country.
The event began with opening remarks by the Project Coordinator, Iryna Ablieieva from Linköping University (LiU). The first session then delved into the Polish national potential for biogas and biomethane production, presented by Michał Tarka from the Polish Biomethane Organisation (PBO) and his partners, Marcin Orłowski from Galia Green Power and Martyna Mulica-Musiał. After a brief break, the discussion continued with a deeper analysis of Poland’s biogas potential, featuring Jacek Dach and Iryna Vaskina from Poznan University of Life Sciences (PULS).
Next, the workshop explored the methodology for biogas potential assessment, with a presentation by Natasia Angel Setiawan Tjutju from LiU. The session then shifted to Sweden, where Karin Tonderski and Konrad Smolarczyk from LiU provided an overview of the country’s biogas potential and presented Nordic Biogas Model and activities of Biogas Solutions Research Center (BSRC). Finally, the workshop moved to Ukraine, with Yurii Matveev and Georgii Geletukha from Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO) presenting on the national potential of biogas and biomethane production.
The workshop concluded with a discussion on how to realise national potential, involving all participants both in-person and online. Participants have gained competencies and skills in how to increase implementation of biogas solutions to realise the existing national potential.
We look forward to more fruitful discussions in our next workshop. Stay tuned for updates!
