Prof. Eleni Stavrinidou, leader of the Electronic Plants group, represented the group at major conferences across Europe, the USA, and Asia in 2025. She presented our latest work on bioelectronics, biohybrids, and sustainable materials to the international research community.

From Europe to the USA and Asia, Eleni had the opportunity to present the team’s latest findings to a wide academic audience throughout 2025. These international conferences brought together leading experts, providing a platform to share our progress, strengthen collaborations, and highlight the innovative work of the group. A central research activity of the group is plant bioelectronics. Motivated by climate change and population growth, we are developing devices that not only help us better understand plant responses to environmental stress but also enhance plants productivity. These results were presented at innoLAE25 – the 11th Innovations in Large-Area Electronics Conference in Cambridge, UK, and at Fπ16 – the 16th International Symposium on Functional π-Electron Systems in Jeju, South Korea. At the MRS Spring Meeting in Seattle, USA, Eleni presented work on photosynthetic biohybrids and living materials, showcasing both the group’s earlier research on plant-based biohybrid systems and new efforts focused on engineered living materials derived from plant cells. The aim of this research line is to integrate biological processes and structures into technological components, thereby giving materials and devices new properties such as responsiveness and evolution. This research was also presented at HORIZONS 2025: Materials, AI & Automation, organized by Vin University in Hanoi, Vietnam, and at the 6th ERC Grantees Conference in Helsinki as this research is primarily funded by the ERC Starting Grant 4D-PhytoHybrid. Together, these talks underscored the group’s global reach and impact, drawing attention to the exciting intersections of bioelectronics, materials science, and sustainability. Many thanks to the organizers of these meetings for giving us the opportunity to share and showcase our work.
