Your work assignments

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Within the division several different research areas are represented. In particular we have a group in Potential Theory and Analysis on Metric Spaces (see Nonlinear Potential Theory - Linköping University), which this project most likely will concern.

Your qualifications

You have graduated at Master’s level in mathematics or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in mathematics, alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way. Among these 60 credits on advanced level at least 30 should consist of an independent exam project. The requirements for this PhD position must be met at the latest at the time of the final employment decision, which occurs when the employment contract is signed.

You should have a big interest in fundamental research. As a PhD student you need to have a strong ability to work independently, drive projects forward and tackle new research questions as they arise. Furthermore, you also need to have a strong ability to collaborate with others.

It is meriting to have international experience and a thesis relevant to the position.

Significant emphasis will also be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

Applicants must have very good communication skills, both oral and written, in English.

Your workplace

The position is placed at the Division of Analysis and Mathematics Education (ANDI), which consists of approximately twenty-five teachers, researchers, and doctoral students. Research in mathematics is conducted both within pure as well as applied mathematical analysis. (The department also conducts research in mathematics education, but this announcement only concerns mathematical analysis.)

The employment

When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.

Starting date: August 2025 or by agreement.

The salary of PhD students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
