NAISS, the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden, provides academic users with high-performance computing resources, storage capacity, and data services. NAISS is hosted by Linköping University and has 12 partner universities across Sweden.

NAISS is looking for a Director of the AI Factory MIMER

This recruitment includes the Swedish node of the EuroHPC-funded network of European AI Factories in collaboration with RISE AB. The AI Factory Service Hub is operated as a project under the Horizon Europe framework program and will include up to 50 AI experts and other staff working close to academic and industrial users across the EuroHPC member states to advance AI solutions, training, business and workforce development.

The position

As AI Factory Director you will lead the Service Hub project together with the co-Director from RISE and work in the leadership team to realize the NAISS AI strategy together with the Director. You will have overall responsibility for representing the project to the EuroHPC JU, organising the collaboration with project partners in Sweden, and ensuring the project delivers according to plan.

The work will include running the project management board, monitoring staffing with partners, coordinating work package activities, and financial reporting. Together with the NAISS Director and RISE AB partners you will also be responsible for the strategic work to secure long-term funding for the activities and establish a strong AI infrastructure in Sweden. The position will include extensive travel within the EuroHPC member states and European Union.

The person we need

Requirements for the position are: 

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field including experience of high-performance computing, machine learning or artificial intelligence
  • A strong track record of leadership and staff management, including financial responsibility.
  • Experience of operating at a multinational level and of dealing with international institutions and with funding agencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to convincingly convey the excitement and impact of a complex scientific project to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to successfully lead negotiations.
  • Good awareness of the sensitivities of operating across countries and disciplines.
  • Ability to set out a long-term vision and the means for its achievement.

Of merit for the position are:

  • Capability to build and maintain consensus and to work with others to make difficult decisions and achieve robust and sustainable outcomes.
  • Experience from European Union and/or EuroHPC projects.
  • Awareness of the functioning of the European Commission and understanding of its funding and decision-taking mechanisms, and/or experience of running distributed organisations.
  • Experience of the delivery of large and complex projects in international settings.
  • Ability to build communities and engender a common sense of purpose within them.
  • Awareness of data science and AI challenges specifically in life sciences, material sciences, autonomous systems, climate science or large language models.

You will work at the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden that is hosted by Linköping University. The employment

Permanent position, full-time, 100%. Starting date by agreement.
