Associate Professor in Cyber-Physical Systems
Back to available jobsWork assignments
The Embedded Systems Lab (ESLAB) of the Division for Software and Systems carries out research, undergraduate and postgraduate education in embedded systems, real-time systems, and cyber-physical systems (CPS). ESLAB’s work spans advanced system design, dependable computing, and emerging applications in autonomous and safety-critical domains.
As an associate professor in Cyber-Physical Systems, you will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including courses in computer architecture, embedded software, real-time systems, and AI-based perception for cyber-physical applications. You will also supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students, and take responsibility for course design and course coordination.
Your research will focus on security- and safety-aware design of real-time and embedded systems, intelligent perception for autonomous vehicles, and trustworthy AI for cyber-physical systems. The research includes both methodological and applied work, and may involve heterogeneous computing platforms, automotive and mobility solutions, and next-generation AI-enabled safety functions.
A central and strategic component of the position is strong cooperation with industry, particularly the automotive sector. You are expected to initiate, lead, and participate in research collaborations with industrial partners, including joint research projects, competence centers, industrial supervision of theses, and technology-transfer.
You will be active in the research community, participate in activities such as research seminars and conferences/workshops, contribute to research projects, communicate results through scientific publications, and help attract external research funding.
You will also contribute actively to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university’s research and education mission. Collaboration in education takes the form of planning, organizing and carrying out good education in cooperation with stakeholders from the surrounding communities. Collaboration in research takes the form of disseminating, making available research work, and benefiting the society.
The position also includes administrative tasks such as course responsibility, program coordination, and participation in development projects within the department. We also welcome engagement in management or leadership roles.
Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.

The workplace
The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe. Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.
