When it was time for Kamiar Radnosrati to defend his thesis, there was a risk that everything would be postponed because of the new coronavirus. But instead he got to write history at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

When Kamiar Radnosrati at the Division of Automatic Control was about to defend his thesis, the opponent Professor Simon Godsill was in England. Godsill works at the University of Cambridge and could not travel to Linköping because of the restrictions in place due to the new coronavirus.

But thanks to quick decisions and good help from the Communications and Marketing Division at LiU, the defence could be held. Professor Godsill connected from England and the members of the examining committee Håkan Hjalmarsson and Mikael Sternad could sit in Stockholm and Uppsala, respectively, and take part online.

“This broadcast is something of a historical moment”, began Professor Fredrik Gustafsson at the Division of Automatic Control. The broadcast and defence then proceeded smoothly.
