Child Studies provides education about children, childhood and the family, with a focus on children’s and young people’s social interaction and language, culture and consumption, and how childhood changes across time and space. With increased knowledge about children and young people, we can better understand their perspectives on the world around them.

The international, interdisciplinary master’s programme Child Studies offers the opportunity to explore the diverse social, cultural and material conditions of children’s lives. The programme provides advanced expertise on issues concerning children and their life conditions, and develops critical analysis of childhood as both an idea and a practice in different contexts.

Single-subject courses on children and childhood

Child Studies offers single-subject courses in areas such as the history of childhood, children’s perspectives and the child perspective, children’s rights, and more. These are suitable whether you are already a working professional, wish to complement your degree, build your own programme of study, or are simply keen to broaden your knowledge.

Contributions to many programmes

In collaboration with other departments, we contribute to teacher programmes and to education in social work, social anthropology, political science, special needs education, and more.
