Plastic nerve cells become more advanced – and simpler

An artificial neuron made of conductive plastics that can perform advanced functions similar to those of biological nerve cells has been demonstrated by researchers at LiU.

Building artificial nerve cells

For the first time researchers demonstrate an artificial organic neuron, a nerve cell, that can be integrated with a living plant and an artificial organic synapse. The neuron and the synapse are made from printed organic electrochemical transistors.

Organic electronics can use power from socket

Organic light-emitting devices and printed electronics can be connected to a socket in the wall by way of a small, inexpensive organic converter, developed in a collaboration between Linköping University and Umeå University.
