Professor

Professor in Psysiotherapi. Researcher and teacher in orthopaedics, rehablitation and sports medicine.

Presentation

Research on risk factors, treatment and consequences after sport injury, especially knee and anterior cruciate ligament injury. The research explores biological, psychological and social factors and how they impact on functional performance, treatment decision making and outcomes, and return to life-long participation in health-promoting levels of physical activity and sports. The research include prognostic studies for knee injuries, biomarkers for knee osteoarthritis, biomechanical studies on hip and knee motion, register and intervention studies.

I teach sports medicine, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, biomechanics and orthopaedics at the Physiotherapy program.

Research

Selected research projects

  • NACOX –Natural corollaries and recovery after acute anterior cruciate ligament injury
  1. Assessing biological, psychological and social factors and their relationships to the natural corollaries and recovery after acute ACL injury
  2. Evaluating the choice of treatment after acute ACL-injury (i.e. ACL reconstruction, ACLR or non-ACL reconstruction, non-ACLR)
  3. Evaluating the return to sport after acute ACL injury
  4. Studying knee problems in the short and long term after acute ACL-injury
  5. Identifying proxies (biomarkers and structural risk factors) for early detection of symptomatic and radiographic osteoarthritis
  • Anterior cruciate ligament injuries in female football
Assessing biological, psychological and social risk factors for new knee injuries

  • ACL LTFU – Long term follow-up after anterior cruciate ligament injury
Assessing physical function and performance, physical activity and knee osteoarthritis 30-35 years after ACL injury

  • “Back in the Game” – internet-based intervention to improve confidence and psychological readiness for return to sport after anterior cruciate ligament injury

  • SPARX - Participation in physical activity and sports during the first 3 years after ACL-reconstruction
