In order to better tackle climate change, it is important to understand both climate mitigation and climate adaptation from multiple perspectives. The Swedish transition discourse has been criticized for being aimed disproportionately at an urban middle class, and many groups are not involved in limiting the effects of climate change nor in adapting society to the expected consequences of climate change. This contributes not only to polarization in questions about responses to climate change, but also to the fact that many knowledges and habits that could contribute to real change are left out of the sustainability debate.
With my research, I want to contribute to a nuanced understanding of climate change based on a diversity of people in shrinking rural communities. I use ethnographic and participatory methods to explore these questions in a way that can contribute to the development of a more sustainable and just world.
In addition to research, teaching is something that I value highly. Working with students and exploring what the world is like and how it could be better is extremely rewarding, educational and fun.
