Scene for AI #9

Artificial intelligence in medicine – Clinical implementation

Currently (fall 2022), there are over a hundred CE-marked AI-based medical technology products in radiology. However, clinical implementation of AI is not trivial and requires several competences and local validation.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.

AIDA – Analytic imaging diagnostic arena

AIDA is a Swedish arena for research and innovation on artificial intelligence, AI, for medical image analysis. Here, academia, healthcare and industry meet to translate technical advances in AI technology into patient benefit in the form of clinically useful tools.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.

Enabling large medical datasets using federated learning and synthetic data

Deep learning methods have the potential to solve many problems in medical imaging, and to help doctors to work more efficiently. Training the deep networks requires large datasets, which in medicine are difficult to obtain due to ethics and GDPR.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.

Scene for AI #9 continuing

M4-health and digital twins: a foundation for general AI in healthcare

For the last 20 years, Cedersund has developed mechanistic mathematical models for all of the main organs in the human body: heart, liver, fat, brain, etc. Lately, these models have combined into an interconnected model for the model as a whole. This interconnected model can be made specifically for each individual, and is then called a digital twin.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.

Deep learning for functional analysis of diseases

Within molecular biology, analyzing different omics as the size of available public data sets has increased orders of magnitudes, but a fundamental key aspect is then to identify a biologically motivated embedding. For this purpose, functional data using protein networks is a suitable candidate.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.

Closing remarks

To solve the most important problems and get results that can be accepted in the healthcare system, it is necessary that medical clinical requirements form the basis of the research. The key to patient benefit from AI research is interdisciplinary work.

From LiU SAI #9 at Wrannesalen, CMIV, Campus US, Linköping University, Linköping, 8/12 2022.
