In the summer of 2023, the Government granted Barnafrid support to conduct a feasibility study, focusing on trauma-informed care and support for traumatised children and youth in Ukraine. The feasibility study has mapped the need for knowledge and skills-building efforts in Ukraine regarding violence against children and traumatisation. The mapping has also provided suggestions on how such efforts can be implemented in Ukraine. The feasibility study was presented on 1 March 2024.
The needs in Ukraine are extensive and the professionals who provide support to children and youth are themselves in great need of support. Therefore, Barnafrid has received a renewed government assignment to contribute with working procedures, methods and training.
Exchange of knowledge in support of Ukraine's children and youth
The Swedish government has mandated Barnafrid to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine. The main task is to increase the availability of effective support for children with trauma symptoms as a result of violence and traumatic experiences. At the same time, Ukraine contributes with experiences that can strengthen Swedish war preparedness and contribute with knowledge to training programmes in Sweden.
