As society becomes increasingly digital, the need for cybersecurity continues to grow. Threats to digital systems are becoming more sophisticated, affecting everything from individual privacy to national security. Linköping University (LiU) conducts world-class research and education in cybersecurity, helping to equip students and society for future cybersecurity challenges.
Cutting-edge education
The university offers an international master’s programme in cybersecurity that combines theoretical depth with practical skills, providing students with expertise that is highly sought after in both the public and private sectors. The master’s profile Secure Systems is also available within three engineering programmes – Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, and Computer Science and Software Engineering – and offers the same content. For those curious about the field, there are also standalone courses and commissioned training for professionals.
A modern environment for hands-on security training
The Cybersecurity Lab at LiU was inaugurated in spring 2025 and features both physical and virtual environments tailored for cybersecurity education. These facilities enable training in both offensive and defensive cybersecurity within secure settings.
Frontline research in collaboration across academia and industry
Cybersecurity is a multifaceted research field, covering topics from critical infrastructure security to privacy. Researchers in cybersecurity at the Department of Computer and Information Science at Linköping University are at the forefront of the field, collaborating with numerous universities, research institutes, and companies both in Sweden and abroad.
Linköping University is also an active member of all major national cybersecurity initiatives, including Cybercampus, the Cybernode, and Campus total defence.
