Linköping University’s Vice-Chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson has been appointed new president of the European network for innovative universities in Europe, ECIU.

Anna Thörn is to be the new University Director at LiU. She is currently regional administrative director of Region Dalarna and has previously held several management positions in Östergötland, including as municipal director in Norrköping.

LiU’s vice-chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson has been selected as a member of the presidium of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), a network of 13 research-intense universities.

Ten researchers from Linköping University have received more than 24 million Swedish kronor from this year’s allocation of funds from the Swedish Cancer Society.

It’s official: the Swedish government appoints Jan-Ingvar Jönsson, professor in medical cell biology, as vice-chancellor of Linköping University.

Berzelius is now Sweden’s fastest supercomputer for AI and machine learning, and has been installed at NSC at LiU. A donation of EUR 29.5 million from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has made the construction possible.

In the coming years, Linköping University will be making a multi-million kronor investment in research on school-age educare. This gives LiU the chance to take the lead in a national area of priority for educational sciences.

On Wednesday, the Minister for Education Anna Ekström encouraged Sweden’s higher education institutions to cease all contacts and cooperation agreements with public institutions in Russia and Belarus. (Article updated 07/03/2022)

“Donations such as this one from the Stig Wadström Foundation make an impact on a university. It will give us room for manoeuvre and open new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration”, says Vice-Chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson.

In a dignified and moving ceremony, Jan-Ingvar Jönsson has been installed as vice-chancellor. “I am taking over a university that is functioning extremely well”, he said, and also extended heartfelt thanks for the support he has received so far.
