Postdoc in organic energy materials

Back to available jobs
Ref LiU-2024-05130
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join us in developing the sustainable energy solutions of the future. Through innovative research in flow batteries and hydrogen electrolyzers, we create efficient and scalable technologies for a greener future.

Research area and work assignments

In the research unit of Organic Energy Materials (OEM) we design organic materials with a specific function for energy transport, conversion or storage. One key advantage of organic materials is that they are composed of atomic elements of high natural abundancy; which is highly relevant for mass implementation of energy technology. Energy devices can be separated into conversion and storage devices. Both types can be designed to operate as solid state or electrochemical devices. The research unit of Organic Energy Materials is composed of about 30 researchers and divided into 3 research groups: organic energy storage (OES), organic energy harvesters (OEH) and organic electrochemical device (OED).

The research focuses on two main areas: (i) the design, formulation, and characterization of metal slurries that are flowable in electrochemical flow batteries, and (ii) the design and characterization of hydrogen electrolysers based on new materials and concepts.

The work includes designing experiments and conducting them in the laboratory, reporting scientific results in the form of publications, and presenting research findings at conferences.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are seeking a researcher with a PhD in Chemistry or Physics, specializing in applied electrochemistry, and expertise in liquid dispersion is a plus. Strong skills in English language, both oral and written presentation, are required.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

The workplace

You will belong to the research unit of Organic Energy Materials (OEM), a part of the Laboratory of Organic Electronics, located at the department of Science and Technology. Our campus is located near the beutiful river Motala Ström in the central parts of Norrköping.

This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE, wise-materials.org). WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.
