Postdoc in Generative AI-Driven Data Synthesis for Building Energy Modeling
Back to available jobsWe are now looking to appoint a postdoc in Generative AI-Driven Data Synthesis for Building Energy Modeling, placed at the Department of Science and Technology, Division for Media and Information Technology, Campus Norrköping. The postdoc will work on a newly started interdisciplinary project focusing on exploring the AI based generation and use of synthetic data for improving predictions of energy performance of buildings as well as the development of methods for responsible use of AI.
Work assignments
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a Swedish Energy Agency funded project concerned with exploring the use of synthetic data created with generative models for the Swedish built environment with an aim of improving the efficiency and fairness of energy predictions and peak load management in heating systems. The research will focus on generative AI for synthesizing data related to energy use. This interdisciplinary project integrates technical advancements in AI-based data synthesis with socio-technical and ethical methodologies and provides a unique opportunity to address both technical challenges and broader societal implications.
Specifically, the work responsibilities will include:
- Review the current data landscape of energy-use modelling.
- Visualize the distribution and characteristics of the collected energy-use dataset repository.
- Explore, set-up, assess AI modelling approaches for synthetizing energy use related data.
- Investigate visual analytics approaches for model understanding and bias detection.
- Work closely with other members of the group and stakeholders of the field, engaging in interdisciplinary research that combines technical, socio-technical and ethical aspects of energy use and synthetic data.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you. It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at the application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD in Computer Science, Visualization and Media Technology, Machine Learning or a closely related research field. A strong background in machine learning and visual data analysis is expected as well as a solid track record of publications in high quality journals and conferences relevant to the field. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are a requirement for this position.
We are looking for someone that is self-motivated, takes initiatives, can work independently and collaboratively. An appreciation for and recognition of the benefits of interdisciplinary research and multicultural teams are necessary.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
The workplace
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the information visualization groups (iVis, https://ivis.itn.liu.se/) and will be collaborating closely with the computer graphics and image processing group and researchers from the Department of Thematic Studies. The iVis group focuses on the explorative analysis and visualization of typically large and complex information spaces, for example in environmental research, transportation systems, social sciences, or artificial intelligence. The computer graphics and image processing group (CGIP, https://liu.se/en/research/computer-graphics-and-image-processing) focuses on research projects directed towards the development of theory and methodology for data synthesis, sparse representation learning, deep learning, fairness in generative models, as well as projects related to image capture, and image analysis
