Within the framework of the current position, you will teach at the undergraduate and advanced levels in design, production engineering, and production systems, with a focus on resource efficiency in manufacturing. The teaching assignment also includes supervision and examination of theses at both bachelor's and master's levels. Teaching for this position is conducted in both Swedish and English. The work also includes special responsibility for course design and course responsibility related to production technology. The role also involves further developing, updating, and quality-assuring existing courses – something that is expected to be done based on your experience and competence in the field.
Research associated with the position is conducted in design and production engineering with great opportunity to influence the direction. Previously, the department has conducted research projects in areas such as industrial automation, production system development, production technology, manufacturing efficiency, and composite manufacturing and is leveraging tools like AI, LLM, Machine vision etc. to create more value in product and production development.
The purpose of the employment is that the assistant professor is to be given the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and to obtain both the research and teaching qualifications required for employment as associate professor.
You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications and help attract external research funding.
You contribute actively to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university's research and education mission. Collaboration in education involves planning, organizing, and implementing good collaboration in educational contexts. Collaboration in research involves disseminating, making accessible, and utilizing research.
The position may also involve administrative tasks, primarily within the undergraduate area. This may include coordinating responsibility for theses.
Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.
You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. We are primarily looking for candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree in the past five years.
For this employment equal importance will be given to academic and pedagogical expertise.
In terms of pedagogical expertise, the following will be assessed:
- Documented pedagogical skills in design and production engineering, production systems, industrial automation, or related areas are a requirement for the position.
- Documented pedagogical skills in teaching at the basic and advanced levels are merits for the position.
- Of merit for the position is a breadth in pedagogical skills regarding different teaching forms such as lectures, supervision, examination, and course development.
For the above points, documented pedagogical skills from other learning environments within both academia and industry can also be cited.
In terms of academic expertise, the following will be assessed:
- A requirement for the position is documented scientific skills in production technology, production systems, industrial automation, or related areas. Especially interesting can be the combination of these with tools like AI, LLM, machine vision etc.
- Scientific skills in interdisciplinary research are a merit for the position.
Of particular merit for the position is documented expertise in collaboration in education and research with internal and external partners.
Of particular merit are applicants with technical skills in development and research.
Of particular merit for the position are skills regarding software and support systems for design and production development, as well as production preparation.
Previous experience of working in industry is a merit.
Also advantageous is documented skill in coordinating and leading projects within development, research, and teaching. This includes project management and coordination experience from industrial or commercial contexts.
Where teaching and research is conducted in Swedish and English then you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and conduct research in English and it is desirable that within two years you can teach and conduct research in Swedish.
The workplace
The Department of Product Realization focuses on design, product development and production; working with the entire product realization cycle from the idea stage to the physical realization of products and production systems. This includes both technical design aspects, industrial design, and production technology an supporting technologies like automation, AI etc. At the department, we work with industry-related projects both in research and education, often resulting in prototypes and demonstrators. Teaching at the department takes place, among other things, in the Master programs in Mechanical Engineering, Design and Product Development, and Industrial Economics. Research is conducted in close collaboration with the industry and with applications such as consumer products, cars, airplanes, industrial robots, etc. and we are a trusted partner to many of the well-known OEMs as well as innovative startups.

The employment
The length of employment for this position is six years, full time. Starting date by agreement.
An assistant professor may be employed until further notice, for a minimum period of four years and a maximum period of six years, as determined by the institution of higher education before the employment begins. The employment may be renewed, by a maximum period of two years, if, as a consequence of sick absence, parental leave, or other special circumstances of the assistant professor, additional time is necessary in order to achieve the purpose of the employment.
An assistant professor shall, after application, be promoted to associate professor if he/she is qualified for employment as associate professor and has been assessed following a test to be suitable for such employment according to the grounds for assessment that the University has determined.
