We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting challenges of today. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!

We are now looking for a PhD student in Integrated Circuits and Systems, at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY).

Your work assignments

The objective of this position is to develop, design, and conduct cutting-edge research on power-efficient integrated circuits (ICs) and transceivers tailored for next-generation 6G systems. To ensure seamless integration, these front-end solutions must be compatible with massive MIMO architectures, necessitating full-duplex operation and reciprocity. The project aims to establish an innovative IC-antenna co-design methodology for full-duplex transceiver front-ends, addressing key design challenges through a comprehensive multi-domain approach spanning antenna, analog/RF, and digital domains. The expected outcome is a novel co-design strategy for radio transceivers, validated through measured and verified state-of-the-art performance. Results are expected to be disseminated through high-impact international journals and leading conferences in the field.

The project is a collaboration between Linköping University and Lund University and will be conducted within a dynamic and collaborative research environment.

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have graduated at Master’s level in Electronics Engineering or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses within the topic mentioned above. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.

The applicant is expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Documented technical expertise in analog, RF, and mixed-signal IC design using advanced CMOS technologies, along with a solid background in analog and digital signal processing systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the entire IC design flow, including circuit design, simulation, layout, and PCB design using advanced CAD tools, as well as experience in the measurement and characterization of integrated circuits.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in both written and spoken English are required. Swedish language skills are considered an advantage.
  • Highly self-motivated with a genuine passion for research and scientific exploration.
  • Experience in antenna design and 3D electromagnetic simulations is considered a significant advantage.

Your workplace

You will be working at the Division of Electronics and Computer Engineering (ELDA), which conducts teaching and research in a broad range of areas, from processor architecture and logic design to analog integrated circuits. The group in integrated circuits and systems has more than 40 years of experience in advanced circuit design and collaborates closely with major semiconductor companies and academic research organizations worldwide.

Feel free to read more about the division here: https://liu.se/en/organisation/liu/isy/elda.

The employment

When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University

The employment has a duration of normally four years’ full-time equivalent. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and institutional assignment. Further extensions may be granted in exceptional circumstances. You will initially be employed for one year, after which your employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, depending on your progress through the study plan.
