Work assignments 

The purpose of the employment is that the assistant professor is to be given the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and to obtain both the research and teaching qualifications required for employment as associate professor.

The Division of Automatic Control is successfully conducting research as well as postgraduate and undergraduate education within areas such as autonomous systems, complex networks, data-driven modeling, learning control, optimization, and sensor fusion. The division has extensive collaborations both with industry and other research groups around the world and a strong commitment to both WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program) and ELLIIT (Excellence Center at Linköping – Lund in Information Technology). We are looking for a tenure track assistant professor in automatic control who can strengthen our activities, either within one of our current research areas or by expanding our research scope to new areas. As an assistant professor, you are also expected to teach at undergraduate and graduate level and to supervise PhD students.

You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications and help attract external research funding.

The employment may also involve administrative responsibilities, such as participating in our programme boards. We welcome your engagement and interest in leadership assignments. You will actively contribute to the university’s development initiatives. Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.

You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimal way and enjoy your working community.

Qualifications

For this position special weight is given to scholarly proficiency, followed by teaching proficiency, in turn followed by remaining proficiencies which should be considered equally.

In terms of scholarly proficiency, the following will be assessed:
- a requirement for the position is documented experience of research within automatic control or adjacent areas such as robotics and signal processing
- a particular merit for the position is documented experience of international collaborations
- a merit for the position is documented experience in applying for and being awarded research funding in external competition

In terms of teaching proficiency, the following will be assessed:
- a merit for the position is documented experience of teaching within control or other subjects of relevance for the position, at bachelor’s or master’s level, as well as supervision of PhD and master’s students

Other skills that will be assessed for this position are proficiency concerning administrative work and/or leadership, technical proficiency, as well as personal skills.

Since teaching is done in both Swedish and English, you have to be able to teach and carry out research in English and it is expected that you will be able to teach in Swedish within two years.

The employment

The length of employment for this position is 5 years, full time. Starting date by agreement.

An assistant professor may be employed until further notice, for a minimum period of four years and a maximum period of six years, as determined by the institution of higher education before the employment begins. The employment may be renewed, by a maximum period of two years, if, as a consequence of sick absence, parental leave, or other special circumstances of the assistant professor, additional time is necessary in order to achieve the purpose of the employment.

An assistant professor shall, after application, be promoted to associate professor if he/she is qualified for employment as associate professor and has been assessed following a test to be suitable for such employment according to the grounds for assessment that the University has determined.
