The position
We are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to join our team and contribute to our ongoing research within Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM). In this role, your primary responsibility will be the hands-on development of advanced simulations and prototypes that help us test and validate new UTM concepts. You will be tasked with building new tools from the ground up, as well as maintaining and expanding our existing simulation platforms. This requires strong technical proficiency, specifically utilizing Python and web-stack technologies (such as JavaScript), to translate theoretical models into functional, testable software in close collaboration with our core research team.
Beyond software development, you will work on the academic side of our projects. We are looking for a candidate equipped with the analytical skills necessary to read, comprehend, and synthesize complex technical research papers. You will actively use this literature to inform your development work and will collaborate directly with our researchers to co-author and publish new scientific papers. This position requires a strong sense of technical ownership and provides an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of practical software engineering and collaborative academic research.
The person we need
We are searching for someone that is structured, quality conscious and has good specialized knowledge within the current area. The candidate should be analytical and have a good ability to working with and analyzing numbers as well as problem solving.
The following education, experience and expertise are required:
- Bachelor degree
- Experience working within the area of Air Traffic Management research
- Experience in programming:
- Python
- Web stack (Javascript/Typescript)
- Experience developing ML models
In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:
- Published scientific publications in international conferences or journals, especially publications in the area of Air Traffic Management
- Knowledge of optimization techniques
- Knowledge in the area of design and analysis of algorithms
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
The workplace
You will belong to the Department of Science and Technology (ITN) which is known for its activities in logistics, visualization and organic electronics. We combine academic height with fruitful collaboration with the surroundingsociety. The position belongs to the division Communication and Transport Systems (KTS), which is one of the largest environments for research and education in the transport area in the Nordic countries.
The operations are conducted within the units Traffic Systems, Quantitative Logistics, Flight logistics, Rail and Public Transport, Mobile Telecommunications, Construction Logistics and Construction Technology. The research is mainly externally funded and is carried out in close collaboration with industry, authorities and society. In undergraduate education, we are responsible for six education programs.
You will belong to the unit Flight Logistic and the research group that focuses on Air Traffic Management research, both conventional aviation and the novel unmanned Urban Air Mobility.
The employment
Time limited position for 12 months, full time 100%.
Start date according to agreement.
This position may come to be a security classified position. If so, security screening including a records check will be carried out before any decision on employment is made.
