Are you about to take part in a commissioned education course and want to know how it works and how to prepare?

On this page, we guide you step-by-step through the process of participating in a commissioned education course at LiU – from registration to course completion.
Commissioned education is ordered and paid for by your employer, so getting approval from your manager is a good way to start.

Before the course begins

1. Approval from your employer

Commissioned education is paid for by your employer, except for courses funded by the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) or other organizations. This means you need to get approval from your manager before registering.

Once the admission notification has been sent out, your employer will receive a contract via email, which must be approved.

2. Register

To register for the commissioned education course you wish to attend, you need to fill out a form on the course’s webpage. Please note that the course may fill up before the final registration date. It may also be cancelled if there are too few registrations.

If you’re interested in a course that doesn’t yet have a start date, you’re welcome to send an email to uppdragsutbildning@liu.se to express your interest. We’ll contact you when we plan to start the course.

3. Welcome letter

A few weeks before the course begins, you’ll receive a welcome letter with all the information you need about your course. This may include the schedule, course literature, study guide, or other practical details.

4. Activate your LiU-ID

Your LiU-ID is your username for accessing our digital services. You activate your LiU-ID here using your mobile BankID. If you already have a LiU-ID, you can skip this step. If you’ve forgotten your password, go here and follow the instructions.

5. Activate two-step verification for your LiU-ID

Two-step verification is a security feature for all accounts at Linköping University. To access our resources remotely, you’ll need to verify your identity using an app when logging in. Wait at least 15 minutes after activating your account before logging in or attempting to activate two-step verification. Follow the instructions in the two-step verification manual.

6. Get started with your digital services and find your course room

A few hours after activating your LiU-ID, you can log in to Liunet, the student intranet, and Lisam, Linköping University’s learning platform. Here you’ll find your email, course rooms, and collaboration spaces. You can also generate registration and transcript certificates.

FAQ

How do we get in touch with you?

There are several ways to communicate with course instructors, coordinators, and fellow participants during your studies. Lisam is the course’s learning platform where documents such as reading guides, schedules, and assignments are uploaded. Contact with the course coordinator and course leader usually takes place via email. For some of our courses, communication is handled through Teams, which will be stated in your welcome letter.

Full-time, part-time, or quarter-time?

Commissioned education can be offered at different study paces. Here are the three most common:

  • Full-time courses have a study pace of 100%, and you are expected to spend approximately 40 hours per week on your studies.
  • Part-time corresponds to a 50% study pace, with an estimated workload of 20 hours per week.
  • Quarter-time means a 25% study pace, requiring around 10 hours of work per week.

Credits or no credits?

Some of our courses award academic credits, known as higher education credits (ECTS). Courses that award credits require an examination. One week of full-time study corresponds to 1.5 ECTS credits.
