I am researching Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), its connection to diabetes complications, and how MASLD can be managed in primary care.
Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) in diabetes within primary care
MASLD is the most common chronic liver disease in the world. However, most patients remain undiagnosed within the healthcare system. According to international guidelines, screening for the condition is recommended for patients at risk, but it is not systematically performed in Swedish primary care today. How a cost-effective screening and management of the condition in primary care could be designed is not fully understood. MASLD is closely linked to diabetes, but whether the condition increases the risk of microvascular diabetes complications is unclear. My research focuses on the prevalence of MASLD in primary care, how patients with MASLD are currently managed, whether cost-effective screening for MASLD in patients at risk is possible, and the connection between MASLD and microvascular diabetes complications.
