Packaging as a Practice

33rd IAPRI Member Conference 2027

Welcome to IAPRI 2027 in Sweden.

Linköping University is pleased to welcome the international packaging research community to Sweden for the 33rd IAPRI Member Conference, taking place in Linköping on 7–11 June 2027.

Under the theme Packaging as a Practice, the conference invites researchers, educators, industry representatives and students to explore packaging not only as a product or technical solution, but as something that is designed, produced, used, handled, interpreted and managed within everyday practices and wider systems.

The conference will provide a platform for sharing current research, exchanging perspectives and discussing how packaging interacts with people, organizations, technologies, materials and society.

Hosted by Linköping University, IAPRI 2027 will bring together the international IAPRI community for five days of scientific exchange, discussion, collaboration and networking.

Packaging as a Practice

Packaging is often discussed through its materials, functions, technologies and environmental performance. However, packaging is also part of a broader set of practices. It is designed, manufactured, transported, selected, opened, reused, sorted and discarded. These actions involve different users, organizations, infrastructures, behaviors and contexts.

The theme Packaging as a Practice creates a space to examine these relationships and to discuss packaging from multiple perspectives.

The conference welcomes research that contributes to a deeper understanding of how packaging is developed, experienced and used, as well as how changing practices can influence the future of packaging. More information about the conference themes and scientific tracks will be announced.

About the conference

The International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) connects packaging research institutes, universities and organizations from around the world.

IAPRI conferences provide an international platform for presenting research, discussing developments in packaging science and technology, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.

The 2027 conference continues this tradition while encouraging new perspectives on packaging through the theme Packaging as a Practice.

Notification of acceptance

General stream submission opens on the 16th of November and runs until the 15th of January.

Only submissions that fall within the scope of the conference will be reviewed. Subtopics include, but are not limited to:
