Digitalisation refers to the integration of digital technologies into everyday business operations. It enables more efficient workflows, smarter decision-making, and greater connectivity within and between organisations. However, digitalisation is more than adopting new tools—it requires fundamental changes in business models, leadership, and organisational structures.
Organisational innovation involves rethinking how an organisation operates—from internal capabilities to external partnerships—to stay competitive and resilient in a world shaped by digital change. When these two forces align, they open the door to new forms of value creation, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
At Linköping University, a research group is exploring these issues at the intersection of technology, strategy, and societal transformation. Through close collaboration with Swedish firms, public organisations, and international networks, the group investigates how digitalisation is driving change—and how organisations can respond effectively.
Our Focus Areas
- Digital Strategy and Execution
We study the gap between firms’ intended digital strategies and what they actually implement—identifying factors that support or hinder success.
- Transformative Business Model Transformation
Our research looks at how incumbents redesign and change their business processes to meet digital and sustainability challenges.
- Crisis-Driven Transformation
- Policy and Ecosystem Dynamics
Working with government agencies and cross-sector actors, we explore how digitalisation can support national climate targets and foster more resilient, transport-efficient societies.
- Start-up & Corporate Collaboration
Our research looks for ways for corporations and startups to synchronize their speed, tempo, needs, and processes for successful partnerships and collaborations.
Partners and Impact
The group collaborates with companies such as Husqvarna, Piab, Securitas, and Stockholmsmässan, and is supported by funding from Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency. Through participatory research, workshops, and case studies, the group generates actionable knowledge for both academia and involved stakeholders.
