Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, generative AI has quickly found its way into the educational world. Although the technology is far from new, today's technical advances, combined with new applications, have made it possible for everyone to use AI.
Develop methods for understanding human interaction with AI
We have received funding from the Swedish Research Council to develop methods for understanding human interaction with artificial intelligence (AI) in educational contexts through exploratory workshops. People interact with AI tools through prompts based on natural language. In other words, our interaction with AI can be described as a linguistic activity that can be analysed using linguistic theories. The systematic approach to writing prompts, known as "prompt engineering," along with AI literacy and critical thinking, is highlighted as necessary knowledge for AI users. In an educational context, it is therefore important to analyse how natural language is used and developed in interaction between humans and computers.
Create a platform through interdisciplinary collaboration
Through interdisciplinary collaboration, with expertise from technology education and cognitive linguistics, we aim to create a platform for generating research questions and creating frameworks to explore the methods needed to address these. More specifically, the goals are to
- Develop a theoretical framework for how teaching and learning can be understood based on the availability of generative AI in schools and education.
- Investigate how this framework creates conditions for the organisation of learning activities.
- Explore which data collection and analysis methods may be useful within such a theoretical framework.
- Build a network of researchers and stakeholders who together develop the research idea.
The project will run from 2025 to 2026, and we will continuously invite you to workshops. Please contact Karin Stolpe, the project manager, if you are interested in participating or otherwise getting in touch about the project.
