Work assignments
The position is linked to the Department of Culture and Society and the research environment Historical Studies. The research carried out in the environment is diverse, and includes, in addition to history, also research in religious studies and art history. The research environment includes research on medieval history, early modern times, modern history and contemporary history, as well as research based on local history, history didactics, medical history, church history, art history, and media history perspectives. The research environment includes the Centre for Local History, and the division also includes the research environment Didactics in the Social Sciences.

The subject of history has a strong tradition at Linköping University and is one of the most sought-after subjects in teacher education. Courses are given primarily as on-campus teaching in the subject of history and in the teacher programmes. Teaching is given at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

The duties for this position mainly include research and research leadership, but also teaching. A central task is to contribute to the research environment in general and modern history in particular within the framework of the subject of history, based on an increased proportion of externally funded research. An important task is also to cooperate with internal and external stakeholders and to develop national and international research collaborations. Research supervision for doctoral students in research environments other than Historical Studies may occur.

You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications and help attract external research funding.

You are expected to actively participate in both teaching and the ongoing development and quality assurance work in the History subject at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The position may involve assignments as research environment manager, doctoral studies manager or other administrative assignments.

You contribute actively to the university’s development work. You are also expected to contribute to the long-term development of the research environment through showing initiative, participation and commitment. We value a vibrant workplace and the person who obtains the employment must have a high physical presence in the environment and contribute to the social community, take responsibility for the development of the subject and research environment and actively participate in the strategic work of the division and the department.

Collaboration is an integral part of the university’s research and education mission. Collaboration in research takes the form of disseminating, making available and utilising research. Overall, collaboration is to strengthen the quality and relevance of education and research. Collaboration in education takes the form of planning, organising and delivering good education in interaction with stakeholders in the surrounding community.

Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to it.

We expect you to be flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and academic contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimum way and enjoy your working relationships.
