The Computer Vision Laboratory (CVL) is looking for an assistant professor in machine learning with a focus on motion analysis from video. CVL is a division at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY), with a vibrant research environment with a total of 37 employees, including 9 researchers, 17 PhD students, and several adjunct researchers. CVL conducts research and education at undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels in machine learning within computer vision.
The division has been recognized as one of Sweden's best AI research environments in Vinnova's previous report, and LiU is Sweden's strongest AI university according to their latest report. We have activities within WASP (Wallenberg), ELLIIT (Excellence center), and LiU's profile area VDF (Visual Digital Futures). For more information about our work, please visit our website.
For this role, we collaborate with the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, WASP, which is Sweden's largest individual research program in modern times. The program creates a platform for academic research and education in close collaboration with leading Swedish technology-intensive industry. The research includes artificial intelligence and autonomous systems that operate in collaboration with humans and adapt to their environment using sensors, information, and knowledge, creating intelligent systems of systems.
WASP's vision is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software for the benefit of Sweden's industry and society. Read more: WASP-Sweden.
An important part of WASP is an international recruitment program, and the current announcement aims to strengthen Linköping University specifically in machine learning as part of the AI focus within WASP. The goal is to complement existing expertise in the area of computer vision with motion analysis from video.
As an assistant professor, you will work with machine learning with a particular emphasis on motion analysis from video. The specific focus is on research and development of methods and mathematical analysis relevant to motion analysis of humans and animals in 3D from video data. The general attention is on research and development of methods and mathematical tools aimed at better understanding the theory and underlying mechanisms within statistical and deep learning-based systems. As an assistant professor, you are also expected to explore application areas within health and life science as well as security and digital forensics.
You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications and help attract external research funding.
You contribute actively to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university's research and education mission. Collaboration in research occurs by spreading, making accessible, and utilizing research.
