PhD student in Medical Science
Back to available jobsWe are looking for a PhD student in Medical Science.
Your work assignments
The candidate will be part of a research team focused on RNA biology in the context of adaptive immunity and autoimmune disease. We are using high-throughput confocal microscopy and proximity labelling and sequencing approaches to characterize molecular regulation in inflammation. The project aims to characterize the role of biomolecular condensates in immune cell activation and identify the mechanisms controlling the expression of immunoglobulin transcripts. Using both experimental molecular and cellular biology methods and bioinformatics, the project will expand our knowledge of mRNA regulation in the adaptive immune system and identify potential molecular targets for therapeutic interventions in inflammatory disease.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at the Master’s level in Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Immunology, or a related field, or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge and laboratory experience in another way.
The position requires good knowledge of English, both oral and written, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
The following competences are of use:
- Mammalian cell culture, with both primary cells and cell lines
- Lentivirus and transfection work
- Experience with microscopy
- Experience with RNA-seq
- Experience with image and RNA-seq analysis, including competence using R or python and computational clusters
- Molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning and RT-qPCR
Please submit a cover letter outlining your interests and experience in biology.
Your workplace
You will be employed at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) in Linköping, within the Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology (MMV), which carries out research, and undergraduate and postgraduate education within Biomedical Science.
