The division of Media and Information Technology is an international leader in visualization, with research, development and education in design, engineering and use of visual media and visual communication. The research ranges from foundational computer graphics and visualization technology to applications in areas such as medicine, astronomy, and biology. An emerging research area is the intersection of visualization and AI; another area of importance is the technology and didactics of visualization for the public. The division is involved in running Visualiseringscenter C, a popular science center focusing on seeing and understanding the world.
The present position is oriented towards concept design and prototyping for advanced visual media, which includes the extended reality spectrum of virtual reality, mixed reality and augmented reality, as well as other innovative media forms.
The division is responsible for the visual media track of an international master’s program in design, an MSc program in media technology, and a BSc program in graphic design and communication. Your main teaching duties are directed towards the international program, which implies teaching on advanced level in English. Collaboration between educational programs provides possibilities to work together with teachers in advanced media technology as well as visual communication. You will be responsible for pedagogical development and course leadership.
You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through academic publications and help attract external research funding.
You contribute actively to the university´s development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university's research and education mission. Collaboration in education takes the form of planning, organising and carrying out good education in cooperation with stakeholders from the surrounding society. Collaboration in research takes the form of disseminating, making available and utilising research.
The present position may also imply administrative duties, such as being a unit manager, research project manager, or educational program coordinator. Engaging in administrative management is generally considered favorably.
Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.
You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is
something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimum way and enjoy your working community.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has received a doctoral degree or has equivalent academic expertise, and has demonstrated pedagogical expertise or other professional skills that are of significance with consideration for the subject and duties relevant to the appointment and duties.
For the present position, particular attention will be paid to pedagogical expertise, second to academic expertise and third to other proficiencies which are judged to be equivalent to each other.
In terms of pedagogical expertise, the following will be assessed:
- You are required to have documented pedagogical experience, of which a significant part is within the subject area of the present position.
- Of particular merit for the position include:
- Documented experience of design-oriented education, such as studio-based teaching.
- Documented experience of multidisciplinary learning situations including, e.g., design, engineering, social science, behavioral science, and art.
- Documented experience of pedagogical leadership.
 
- Documented proficiency in external collaboration for education is also considered a merit.
In terms of academic expertise, the following will be assessed:
- You are required to have documented experience of research in the subject area of the present position.
- Of particular merit include:
- Documented experience of design-oriented research approaches.
- Documentation and communication of design-oriented research results using appropriate formats, such as portfolios.
- Documented ability to win competitive research grants for design-oriented research.
 
- Documented proficiency in external collaboration for research is also considered a merit.
Other proficiencies that will be assessed for this position are administrative proficiency and leadership.
- You are required to have documented experience of education and research administration.
- You are required to have good ability to cooperate, create relations and work in teams.
- Documented experience of academic leadership is considered a merit.
Teaching and research are done in Swedish and English. You are required to demonstrate ability to teach and do research in English, and it is desirable that you can teach and do research in Swedish within two years.
