Your work assignments
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
As a PhD student, you will work on a project aimed at understanding the consequences of DNA break induction. You will combine advanced genetic engineering approaches with survival assays, fluorescence-based techniques in fixed and live cells, single-cell sequencing, and computational bioinformatics analyses to induce DNA breaks, monitor their formation, and investigate their repair outcomes.
The position includes a mandatory research stay abroad of at least three months.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related subjects or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
You should be proficient in spoken and written English, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Applications are expected to include a letter of motivation detailing research interests and expertise and a CV. Previous knowledge of genome stability and CRISPR/Cas9 methodology is required. In addition, you should have experience in:
- Molecular Biology research at university level
- Mammalian cell culture
- Mammalian cells transfection and transduction
- MEFs generation and immortalization
- DNA extraction from cells and animal tissues
- DNA amplification and detection by PCR
- Immunohistochemistry
- Sensory neurons isolation.
The following working experience are also seen as meriting:
- Mouse handling techniques
- Rodent behavioral assays.
Your workplace
Your workplace will be 75% at Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology (MMV), and 25% at Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN), both at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV). MMV and CSAN carry out research, undergraduate and postgraduate education within Health Sciences.
The employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. In connection with your admission to the doctoral program, your employment as a PhD student is handled. The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.
Starting date upon agreement.
