Anestis Divanoglou

Associate Professor, Docent in Neurological Rehabilitation
My research focuses on rehabilitation, extending from clinical settings to the community.

Presentation

My passion lies in identifying and addressing real clinical challenges by collaborating closely with clinicians and individuals with a lived experience of disability.

After a decade in academic teaching positions, I took on the role of Research and Development Coordinator at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Linköping University Hospital. In this capacity, I systematically engage in the clinic’s strategic R&D priorities, particularly regarding its status as a University Hospital Unit. My responsibilities include leading the development of robust R&D structures within the clinic and integrating research into the daily practice of rehabilitation clinicians. I work to empower clinicians to engage with, participate in, and conduct research actively.

Ongoing Research Projects

PI of the Inter-PEER – the International Project for the Evaluation of Active Rehabilitation. This project assesses the outcomes of community rehabilitation programs for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) that are based on peer-support. Inter-PEER is an international initiative, with data collected in Sweden and Poland, and its protocol has inspired similar evaluations in Norway and Australia.

PI of the STRIVE-SCI project: Strengthening the Rehabilitation Continuum and Optimizing the Path to Regaining a Good Life Following Acute Spinal Cord Injury. This national multicenter study aims to understand the first-year post-SCI experience in Sweden, focusing on daily independence, self-efficacy, participation, costs, and well-being. We also investigate met and unmet needs related to community support and personal assistance, as well as individuals' experiences of rehabilitation and returning to everyday life. STRIVE-SCI has established a nationwide network of rehabilitation clinicians, marking the first national study of its kind in Sweden.

In collaboration with a Swedish network of researchers, I have contributed to the translation of several SCI-specific clinical and patient-reported outcome measures from English to Swedish (e.g., SCIM-SR, SCIM-IV, Moorong Self-Efficacy Scale, Queensland Evaluation of Wheelchair Skills Test). This work is crucial as the absence of SCI-specific outcome measures in Swedish has hindered the evaluation of rehabilitation interventions and the identification of ongoing needs among people with SCI.

I am also part of the research team for the multidisciplinary project 'Epistemology and Post-COVID,' focusing specifically on sub-projects related to post-COVID fatigue and post-COVID as a diagnosis.
