Graduate School in Health Professions Education

The purpose is to secure the competence supply of teachers and researchers at our institutions of higher learning. The graduate school is financed via the Swedish Research Council. The graduate school started in December 2022.

Purpose

The purpose of this graduate school in medical education is to offer postgraduate training to strengthen the research connection and achieve higher quality in within educations in health and medicine offered at Linköping University, Stockholm University and Karolinska Institute. The purpose is also to secure the competence supply of teachers and researchers at our institutions of higher learning. The graduate school is financed via the Swedish Research Council. The graduate school started in December 2022.

Design

Through an interdisciplinary approach, the graduate school wants to enable subject research as well as pedagogical research. The pedagogical research aims to increase knowledge about how teaching the new subject knowledge can best support students' learning in our educations.

The graduate school is also interprofessional as teachers/staff from different educations in health and medicine will participate. This enables exchange and collaboration both in subject research and educational research.

The graduate school offers specially adapted postgraduate courses in addition to the respective university's compulsory courses.
The graduate school offers internationalization through mentors or supervisors outside Sweden.

Possible areas of research

• Students' understanding and integration of central concepts in the subject
• Students' meeting with patients in clinical practice
• Design of courses and educational elements and what effect it has on students' professional and interprofessional learning
• Organization, design and leadership in healthcare education

Target group

The graduate school in medical education is aimed at teaching staff in educations in health and medicine that lead to professional identification.

The graduate school will accept 6-10 full- or part-time doctoral students. Admitted doctoral students are expected to teach 20% at some educations in health and medicine in parallel with their postgraduate studies. Announcements will be made via the respective university's websites. Start for doctoral students is expected to take place during the autumn semester 2023.

Seminars

A series of seminars will start in september 2023 and will be held every other wednesday at 9 am to 10 am at Zoom.

November 8th-9th an overnight conference is planned for the doctoral students and main supervisors.
